Founder and Director

Nicholas M. Makau is a development specialist with over 20 years’ experience in program development and implementation with outstanding outcomes. Mr. Makau has a remarkable command on evidence based programming where program activities are directed to community felt needs by ensuring that all key stakeholders are involved in all stages. He has prepared and defended grant proposal to some international donors such as USAID, Concern Worldwide, World food program among others. Ability to prepare and present routine progress reports specific to each donor, work plans and other support documents. At the same time ensuring that while donor targets are achieved, the target population needs are met while keeping the program team motivated and focused.
He is well skilled in developing a robust Monitoring and evaluation Framework to ensure that every aspect of the work in well documented and data recorded appropriately, analysed and the findings utilised to make the necessary changes in the programming as well as reporting to the donors. Such a framework is crucial in program advocacy and lobbying for policy enhancement both locally nationally and even abroad. He is well conversant with Program Budgeting, financial management during the grant period as well as ensuring the appropriate reports are submitted on time as well as audit reports where necessary.
He is a specialist in child protections and safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults. During his career, Mr. Makau participated in the development and implementation of the National Minimum Standards for OVC care and protection which was developed by the Department of children services, USAID and other development partners. He also took a leading role in implementation of the Children Protection Information Management System (CPIMS) data base. Mr. Makau brings unique qualities to his work. This includes cutting edge creativity, innovation and adoption coupled with passion for results. He lead the first ever community based paediatric HIV care and treatment program in Nairobi informal settlements with remarkable results. He equally pioneered the establishment of the first unique village in Kenya that brings together destitute grandparent and orphaned children and established a self-staining community.
Mr. Nicholas M. Makau is a graduate of Moi University, School of social cultural and development studies. Nairobi university monitoring and evaluation. He holds a certificate on Project management form Kenya institute of management. Mr. Makau is a commonwealth fellow in a program where he was inducted in management of non-profit enterprises in the United Kingdom. He is a founder and member to a number of community based organization. Member of Friends of Kyanzavi Welfare Association aiming to assist in promotion of economic empowerment of disadvantaged and Peer Health Empowerment for rural youth to increase knowledge of HIV/AIDS, drugs and substance abuse. Official of Executive Board of Kenya Alliance for Advancement of Children Rights. Member of Friends of Ulu Settlement Scheme. Co-founder of the Children of God Relief Institute Saving and Credit Society for staff members. While working with the Children of God relief institute he initiated a number of initiatives which bore remarkable outcomes such as HIV care and treatment for children from resource poor communities, Food and nutrition to accompany the same, a multidisciplinary team to review and develop an action plan for each child under care. Most recently with friends he has founded Zaria International development program.
